Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese made his first state visit to Indonesia following his re-election.. He met his Indonesian counterpart President Prabowo Subianto on Thursday to discuss defence cooperation and global trade.
Albanese led the centre-left Labor Party and secured an increased parliamentary majority, was sworn in on Tuesday. This visit aims to strengthen defence and economic ties with Indonesia.
“Indonesia is an indispensable partner for Australia,” Albanese remaked.
He said after the meeting,”Security is built on the sovereignty of every nation and the rules that govern all nations” .
Prabowo affirmed his commitment to ratifying the defence agreement..
“We will continue discussing the opportunities to improve and increase cooperation in defence sector,” he said.
Albanese was received with full honors, including a military ceremony, a mounted guard of soldiers, and thousands of schoolchildren waving flags in welcome. The talks also covered trade and investment, food security, energy transition, and critical minerals.
