Biman Bangladesh completes pre-hajj flights, gears up for return journey

Biman Bangladesh Airlines has successfully concluded its pre-hajj flight operation for the 2025 pilgrimage, marking the end of a crucial phase in facilitating the journey of Bangladeshi pilgrims to Saudi Arabia.

The final pre-hajj flight BG335, left on May 31, 2025, officially bringing this stage to close.

This year national flag carrier transported a total of 41,902 pilgrims to the kingdom abroad 108 dedicated flights. The airline ensured secure and well-organized travel for all passengers. Beyond its own flight schedule, Biman Bangladesh Airlines (BG) also played a vital role in providing full ground-handling services for flights operated by Saudia (SV) and flynas (XY), delivering essential support with meticulous attention to detail.

The pre-hajj flight period commenced on April 29, 2025, from the outset, Biman actively served pilgrims departing from various locations, including the Ashkona Hajj camp in Kurmitola, as well as the cities of Chattogram and Sylhet.

With the successful achievement of the pre-hajj operations, Biman Bangladesh Airlines is now fully focused on the significant undertaking of post-hajj return flights. These flights are calendar to embark on June 10, 2025, and will continue until July 10, 2025. The airline’s primary objective during this phase is to ensure the safe, punctual, and systematic return of all Bangladeshi pilgrims. Biman Bangladesh Airlines is diligently working to achieve this goal.

It is remarkable that for the 2025 Hajj, Saudi Arabia distributed a quota of 127,198 pilgrims for Bangladesh. However, due to increasing costs associated with the pilgrimage, it is estimated that approximately 87,000 pilgrims may ultimately undertake the journey.

The government’s hajj management authority will offer a range of package options with varying price points, primarily differentiated by the distance for accommodation from the Kaaba (either within 1-1.5 km or 2.5-3 km). The initial registration period for this year’s Hajj concluded on November 30, 2024.

Looking back at the previous year, during the 2024 Hajj season, Biman Bangladesh Airlines has projected to carry around 42,629 pilgrims, which represented approximately half of the total number of Bangladeshi pilgrims traveling.

To manage this, the airline had scheduled 116 pre-Hajj flights and 125 post-Hajj flights. Ultimately, a total of 85,257 Bangladeshi pilgrims travelled to Saudi Arabia to perform Hajj in 2024.

As Biman Bangladesh Airlines transitions its focus to the return flights, the nation hopes for the safe and smooth homecoming of its pilgrims, marking the successful completion of another significant Hajj operation.
