Paralysis
Paralysis is a familiar word in all over the world. It is a physical disorder which makes the muscles of human body weak or stiff.
Muscle doesn’t work properly when brain and muscle can’t connect to each other due to any functional problem. As a result, nerves are attacked, limbs become immobile and become paralyzed.
Paralysis can occur for various reasons. But most terrible one is paralysis from spinal cord injury.
Innovation
There are lot of treatments are available but those can’t restore body’s normal functioning. These time scientists are innovated a technology for paralyzed patients of spinal cord injury. By using this patients can restore the ability of walking.
An American company, Neuralink has developed an advance Brain Computer Interface last year. By this technology, they implanted chips in the brain. However, still it is very difficult to save the limbs from paralysis.
Recently, Researchers of China has challenged the concept of Neuralink. Their groundbreaking clinical trial has surprised the world.
“Neural Re-modelling”
Researchers of Fudan University, China has innovated a successful technology which already beats Neralink’s innovation to solve the problem of walking of paralysis patients. They titled it as ‘Neural Re-modeling’.
This study is based on a delicate technology. This helps to reconnect the nerve system. This reconnection helps patients to walk normally for a long time without any assistive device.
In this transplantation system, scientists implant 2 electrodes in the motor cortex of the brain and lower part of the spinal cord. Sizes of these electrodes are just 1 mm.
By algorithm and analysis a special signal has been collected by the electrode of brain and transfers it to the electrode of spinal cord. As a result, an electrical stimulation delivers to the necessary nerves. Paralyzed muscles are reactivated after that.
First trial happened in January 2025. It’s trialed on a 34 years paralyzed patient. He was able to move his both legs with in just 24 hours. Also, he was success to walk 5 meters within 14 days.
Three more patients were trialed using the same method in February and March. They were also successful.
With this technology, Scientists of China has opened a new light of hope for paralyzed patients and their close ones.
