Irfan Uddin’s recent achievement of landing a high-paying job at a Silicon Valley AI firm is a perfect example of how the country’s youth are rising to international challenges and shining on the global stage.
Md. Irfan Uddin, a graduate of Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET), has recently secured an impressive position at Astera Labs, a well-known artificial intelligence company located in Silicon Valley. Starting June 30, Irfan will work as an Electrical Product Engineer, earning an annual salary of about $350,000 (approximately BDT 3.5 crore), along with a signing bonus of $25,000 (around BDT 30 lakh).
Irfan’s journey began when he completed his bachelor’s degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from CUET in 2016. Eager to expand his knowledge and skills, he pursued a master’s degree in Electrical Engineering at the University of Wyoming in the United States. He was fortunate to receive a scholarship that supported his studies. Although he is expected to finish his master’s program in May 2025, Irfan started his job search early, applying for positions from January onwards.
The search was tough. Irfan shared, “I applied to over a thousand jobs. Initially, it was discouraging when I didn’t hear back. But I stayed determined. Every day, I dedicated at least two hours to sending applications, even when I had classes, exams, and research work.”
Finally, by February, things started to change. He began getting responses from companies. One offer came from a firm in Texas, but Irfan chose to pursue the opportunity with Astera Labs. The hiring process at Astera Labs was challenging and involved multiple stages. He went through nine rounds of interviews, including a demanding 5-hour technical interview onsite in California.
Irfan’s hard work and persistence paid off with this prestigious job offer. His story highlights the importance of patience and dedication when pursuing career goals, especially in competitive fields like artificial intelligence and engineering.
