Global collectible design fair Design Miami has unveiled a series of international events planned for 2025, celebrating the 20th anniversary of the organization. Under a new initiative titled Design Miami. In Situ, the fair aims to bring museum-quality design experiences to new audiences across continents.
The announcement marks a significant expansion for the organization, traditionally known for its flagship events in Miami Beach and Paris, and positions Design Miami as a more flexible and internationally engaged platform.
Looking back, looking forward
Chief Executive Officer Jen Roberts expressed the organization’s vision in a statement:
“Over the past 20 years, we’ve built a platform showcasing excellence in both historic and contemporary design. As we look toward the future, we’re excited to explore new ways of engaging the global design community.”
The initiative is described as both a celebration of the fair’s legacy and a bold step into the future of how design is experienced and shared
Global highlights in 2025
The In Situ program will debut on 31 July with a curated one-day experience in Aspen, Colorado, titled A Day of Design. Held in collaboration with Range Rover, and timed to coincide with the Aspen Art Museum’s ArtCrush, the event will feature immersive installations and creative activations curated by Ashlee Harrison, Design Miami’s curatorial director.
This September, Seoul, South Korea will host “Illuminated: A Spotlight on Korean Design,” a two-week exhibition showcasing the individuals and ideas that have shaped Korean collectible design in recent decades. The show, organized in collaboration with the Seoul Design Foundation, will be held at Zaha Hadid’s iconic Dongdaemun Design Plaza and curated by prominent art and design figure, Hyeyoung Cho.
Paris edition returns, larger than ever
Design Miami is heading back to Paris this October for its highly anticipated third edition at L’hôtel de Maisons. Prepare for their biggest event yet, as this year’s fair will boast a record-breaking number of galleries and an even larger “Design at Large” section, featuring an impressive array of monumental works and architectural installations.
December brings it home to Miami
The program will culminate in Miami Beach in December, with the 21st edition of the fair. The 2025 theme, selected by design historian Glenn Adamson, Make, Believe, Promises to explore innovation and imagination in design—celebrating pioneers from the past while spotlighting emerging visionaries.
A strategic during Art Basel
This new approach comes amid a notable absence: for the first time in years, Design Miami did not hold its annual fair in Basel, Switzerland. The decision to cancel the event earlier this year led some participating galleries to launch an independent gathering named Maze.
Nonetheless, Design Miami’s expanded schedule reflects a broader strategy of adaptability and cultural engagement—suggesting that the fair is not just celebrating its past but actively reshaping its future.
