Home Affairs Adviser Jahangir Alam Chowdury stated that Bangladesh will follow correct diplomatic procedures when repatriating Indian citizens living illegally within its borders.
Following the opening of the third floating border outpost in Satkhira, the Home Affairs Adviser specified that “illegal Indian residents would be returned through formal diplomatic processes.”
The advisor made it clear that “even if the people being pushed by India are indeed from Bangladesh, India lacks the legal authority to return them forcefully without adhering to proper legal channels, deeming such as action lawful.”
The importance of “diplomatic steps” highlights the need for governments to address such matters through official channel and negotiations.
In addition, The Home Adviser noted that a letter requesting a diplomatic solution has been dispatched, and that he has engaged in discussions with the Bangladeshi Ambassador, the Foreign Affairs Adviser, and Security Adviser Dr. Khalilur Rahman.
At the same event, the Director General of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), Major General Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman Siddiqui, pointed out the regions most impacted by the cross-border push-ins.
Moreover, he indicated that the BGB persists in sending formal letters of protest when these push-in events happen and regularly engages in discussions with the Border Security Force (BSF) of India through flag meetings.
Bangladesh will employ lawful diplomacy to repatriate undocumented Indian Citizens.
