On the campus of Dhaka University, an electric shuttle bus service has been introduced with the goal of making student transit more secure and enjoyable.
The green Future Foundation-backed project will carry four electric shuttle cars every day from 8.00 a.m. to 8 p.m.
The price for a ride is fixed between Tk 10 to Tk 20, with the exact amount depending on the destination.
Each shuttle car, with space for up to 14 passengers, will include volunteers to help people during the journey.
Additionally, this service will start by covering four specific routes on campus.
A second year student from the faculty of business, she said, it was genuinely surprised when she first saw the shuttle, remarking that it felt like DU was finally keeping pace with contemporary university campus abroad.
Students are already praising the initiatives as a “breath of fresh air”, both concretely and unsubstantially, even though it’s just starting.
The quiet sound of the shuttle car is fast becoming the new, characteristic sound of DU, replacing the once dominant sounds of loud horns and quick footsteps.
More than just a means of getting around, DU’s electric shuttle is fast becoming a sign of positive change, offering respite from the elements or a break during the academic day.
Prof Dr Md Kamal Uddin, the CU Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Administration), commented that the students’ evaluation of the cars’ functionality and benefits will determine the service’s extension. The university administration added that the introduction of e-cars on the CU campus is expected to lower environmental pollution.
