Professor Dr. Md. Monowar Hossain, a renowned academic from the Department of Zoology at Jahangirnagar University (JU), has been officially nominated for the National Wildlife Conservation Award 2025 in the individual category for education and research in wildlife conservation. The nomination was formally announced by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change through a circular issued on June 18, 2025.

Dr. Md. Monowar Hossain is widely recognized for his exceptional contributions to wildlife biology, especially in the fields of biodiversity conservation, species identification, and environmental education. Over the years, he has been involved in numerous high-impact research projects focused on Bangladesh’s native fauna, particularly insects and pollinators like butterflies, bees, and dragonflies. A hallmark of Dr. Hossain’s scientific career is his pioneering effort in DNA barcoding of wildlife species in Bangladesh. To date, he has successfully created DNA barcode genes for 122 wildlife species and submitted them to international gene banks.
