Jagannath University Officially Receives Remaining Land for Second Campus in Keraniganj

With the recent transfer of 11.40 acres, Jagannath University has completed possession of the entire 200-acre site for its second campus in Tegharia, Keraniganj.

The handover ceremony took place on Tuesday, June 3, at 11:30 AM, when the Dhaka Deputy Commissioner’s office officially transferred the remaining land to the university authorities.

In 2017, the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) sanctioned a proposal to allocate 200 acres of land for Jagannath University’s second campus. Later, on January 23, 2020, the Dhaka Deputy Commissioner’s office transferred 188.60 acres to the university, with the remaining 11.40 acres pending until now. The recent transfer was preceded by a public notice issued by the Land Acquisition Branch-02 of the Deputy Commissioner’s office, confirming the formal handover. The land, situated at  Westdi Mauza of Keraniganj Upazila, is part of government-owned khas land records.

Speaking on the occasion, Acting Registrar Professor Dr. Gias Uddin described the event as a historic milestone for the university, stating, “With this final land transfer, the process of establishing our permanent campus has officially commenced. We are now going to launch tender procedures and begin construction work promptly.”

He further expressed gratitude for the collaborative efforts of all relevant departments, emphasizing, “This long-awaited achievement was only possible through their dedicated cooperation. Our immediate focus is to ensure the timely completion of high-quality infrastructure.”

Jagannath University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Rezaul Karim also welcomed the development, noting, “This final formal handover was the last pending step, and we are pleased to have now received the entire land parcel. The RDPP (Revolving Development Project Proposal) has been approved, and we anticipate rapid progress on the second campus.”

He added, “The land acquisition represents a significant advancement toward realizing our comprehensive campus vision. Construction is expected to commence shortly.”

The construction works of the university’s second campus project on the 200-acre Tegharia site in Keraniganj is moving forward. The Ministry of Education released a directive on January 6, transferring the project, titled ‘Jagannath University New Campus Establishment: Land Acquisition and Development,’ to the Bangladesh Army as an ‘Assigned Purchase Work’ for execution.
