National University Issues Strict Health Guidelines to Prevent COVID-19 Spread

In light of rising concerns over the spread of the coronavirus, the National University of Bangladesh has issued a new set of directives aimed at ensuring the safety and well-being of its teachers, officers, staff, and service recipients. These measures are designed to reinforce health and safety protocols within university premises and minimize the risk of transmission.

According to an official circular issued on Sunday, June 15, the university has made wearing face masks mandatory for all employees while present in the office. Teachers, administrative officers, and other staff members have been strictly instructed to follow the prescribed health guidelines at all times during office hours. Entry into the offices of high-ranking officials, including the Vice-Chancellor, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, and Treasurer, is not permitted without a properly worn mask.

To reduce in-person gatherings and minimize contact, the circular states that all official meetings must now be conducted virtually, using the Zoom application or similar online platforms. This step is intended to ensure that essential discussions and administrative coordination can continue without risking the health of participants. In addition, no more than three individuals are allowed to gather at any one spot outside of office spaces, in order to support physical distancing and reduce crowding in shared areas.

The order further emphasizes that any university staff member exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19, such as fever, cough, shortness of breath, or loss of taste and smell, must immediately report their condition. Affected individuals are required to consult the University Medical Services Office or call the IEDCR (Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research) hotline at 01401-196293 for advice and COVID-19 testing. If tested, they must inform the university authorities of their test results to ensure appropriate follow-up actions and contact tracing if necessary.

The circular also addresses health protocols for visitors and service recipients who come to the university for administrative or academic purposes. All visitors are required to wear masks and maintain physical distance while standing in line or interacting with university personnel. They are encouraged to cooperate with security and health officials and follow any additional safety measures in place.

These measures come as part of a broader national and institutional effort to contain the spread of COVID-19, especially as the country experiences sporadic surges in infection rates. The National University authorities have reiterated that compliance with these health protocols is not optional but mandatory, and that violators may face disciplinary actions if found disregarding safety regulations.

The administration also appealed to all members of the university community to remain vigilant, act responsibly, and help maintain a safe and healthy environment for everyone. The university remains committed to prioritizing the health and safety of its students, staff, and faculty, while continuing its academic and administrative operations with minimal disruption.
