A team of scientists of Hong Kong invented a new Nasal Spray Vaccine for influenza. It is needle free. It is able to provide board protection against both human and avian flu subtypes.
Leo Poon Lit-man, chair Professor of public health Virology at HKUMed state that ‘Influenza is a major respiratory disease the burdens global healthcare systems.’
Also added that ‘Current seasonal vaccines protect against only three selected strain, can not provide guard against zoonotic threats like avian influenza.
The team will start with a nasal spray vaccine targeting two most significant viruses. Also it has long term goal of achieving board spectrum protection.
This would not only prevent infection from unknown new viruses but also remove the need to develop vaccines after a new virus emerges.
It will help to cut out the fear of hesitancy, specially among children.
The research team followed two strategies through genetic modifications and codon usage optimisation. Which helps to develop live-attenuated influenza vaccines. It is effectively triggering immune responses against various influenza virus subtypes.
Hopefully, it will provide a effective prevention with a single vaccine.
