Pharmaceutical company representatives will no longer be able to meet doctors directly in hospitals. Doctors will have to inform them about their medicines via email; according to a report submitted by the Health Services Reform Commission.
At11 am on Monday (5 May), representatives of the Health Sector Reform Commission submitted their report to the Chief Advisor Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus at the State Guest House Jamuna- said Abul Kalam Azad Majumder, Deputy Press Secretary to Chief Advisor.
The commission has recommended several legislative reforms and enactment of new laws in the report. The recommendations say that all relevant old laws should be reviewed and updated. In addition, some new laws should be enacted to ensure patient protection, financial allocation, accountability and adequate emergency preparedness.
Commission in its report recommended the formation of seven laws, including the formation of an independent and permanent ‘Bangladesh Health Commission’
The proposed new laws are: Bangladesh Health Commission Act, Bangladesh Health Commission Service act, Primary Health Service Act, Health Protection Act, Drug Pricing and Access Act, Bangladesh Medical Research Commissioner Act.
In November, 2024, the government formed a 12 members Health Sector Reform Commission. The commission is headed by Professor Dr. AK Azad Khan, President of the Diabetic Association of Bangladesh.
