Three students from Department Law and Justice at Presidency University, have won IBA Spirit of the Competition Award in the IBA ICC Moot Court Competition 2025.
A three member team represented Bangladesh in the IBA ICC Moot Court Competition 2025 held at Hague, Netherlands, from June 11 to June 18. The moot court team consisted of Sayeed Mahin, Mahbubur Rahman Sohag, and Sonali Rajbongshi, with Lecturer Salsabil Chowdhury serving as their coach.
The competition involved debates modeled after proceedings of the International Criminal Court (ICC), held at the ICC’s headquarters. The Bangladeshi delegation won the competition that was participated by 88 teams of law students from universities across 45 countries. Through this platform, students gained practical experience in international criminal law, human rights, and judicial processes. The International Bar Association (IBA) introduced this award for the first time in this year’s edition of the competition. To celebrate this remarkable achievement, a “Meet the Press” event was organized today at the Monalisa Hall of Hotel La Vinci in the capital.
At the event, Md Didarul Islam Bhuiyan, Head of the Department of Law and Justice, stated that the students’ achievement is not just a personal triumph, but a historic milestone for legal education in Bangladesh. He noted that this success would serve as a beacon of inspiration for future law students and affirmed that, with proper guidance and support, Bangladeshi students are capable of leading on the global stage.
During the event, the students shared their various experiences. Salsabil Chowdhury highlighted that despite facing numerous obstacles and limitations, the team demonstrated unwavering determination, perseverance, and commitment throughout the competition.
