Mohammad Salah, a key attacker for Liverpool, secured the Premier League’s Player of the season award.
The 32-year-old Egyptian has now won this distinction twice, previously in the 2017-18 campaign. The award’s recipient is chosen through a process that merges public voting with the input of professional football expert panel.
This season’s Premier League Player of the season award went to Salah, who was pivotal in leading the Reds to the title. He triumphed over other contenders, including his clubmates Virgil van Dijk and Ryan Gravenberch, the latter of whom was separately honored as the young player of the season.
At 23 years old, Dutch midfielder Gravenberch has excelled this Premier League season, recording 59 interceptions-more than any other midfielder in the league. He also leads all Liverpool players in winning back possession.
Besides the winner, the final nominees for the season’s highest honor featured Declan Rice (Arsenal), Alexander Isak (Newcastle), Bryan Mbeumo (Brentford), and a pair from Nottingham Forest, Morgan Gibbs-White and Chris Wood.
This award marks the first occasion since 2018-19 that a recipient is not a Manchester.
Also making the young player of the shortlist were Liam Delap ( lapwich), Anthony Elanga (Nottingham Forest), Dean Hujisen ( Bournemouth), Cole Palmer (Chelsea), Joao Pedro (Brighton), Morgan Rogers ( Aston Villa), and Willam Saliba (Arsenal).
With 28 league goals, a five-goal lead over the nearest contender and 18 assists, six more than any other player and only two shy of the 20-assist record held by Thierry Henry and Kevin de Bruyne and Salah was set to play the season’s final match against Crystal Palace on Sunday.
Beyond his on-field performance, he achieved a significant milestone this season by becoming the Premier League’s top overseas goal scorer, moving past Sergio Aguero’s 184. Furthermore, he committed his future to Anfield by signing a contract extension through 2027.
This month, Salah secured his third Football Writers’ Association Footballer of the Year title, winning with more than 90% of the ballots.
