“Study in Italy: Scholarship Guideline for International Students”

Italy is a beautiful country in Europe. It is a popular destination for international students for its rich history, top-ranked universities and vibrant culture. Being part of the European Union, the country provides excellent opportunities for both education and career advancement. Italian universities are recognized globally.

Choosing Purpose

Italy ranks as Europe’s third-largest economy and holds the ninth position worldwide. This means students can access various internships and training opportunities in different sectors. Cities like Milan, Rome and Turin are especially welcoming to international students, offering English-taught programs in addition to Italian courses.

Italy is one of the most popular countries to visit because of its art, buildings and food. With 59 UNESCO World Heritage Sites, students enjoy not just academics but a rich cultural experience.

Popular areas of study include fashion, fine arts, business, medicine, hospitality, computer science and more. Some of the top universities are:

Application Process

Intakes:                                             

There are two intakes are available in a year.

  • Fall Intake: Main intake, with applications open from November to April. Classes start in September/October.
  • Spring Intake: July to September applications with classes starting in February/March.

Students must apply through each university’s website. A pre-enrollment is also required via the Universitaly portal, where you upload documents and wait for your offer letter. Tuition is usually paid in three installments.

Required Documents

  • Online application form
  • Valid passport
  • Academic transcripts and certificates
  • Language test results (IELTS or TOEFL)
  • Statement of Purpose and CV
  • Proof of fee payment
  • Health insurance and medical certificate
  • Additional documents (GRE, portfolio etc depending on the course)

Student Visa (Type-D)

International students need a Type-D visa for stays longer than 90 days. In Bangladesh, applications go through VFS Global. Required documents include:

  • Visa application form and photos
  • Valid passport
  • University offer letter and pre-enrollment proof
  • Financial proof (bank statements)
  • Proof of accommodation
  • Health insurance
  • Travel booking

Visa processing takes at least 21 working days. Costs include €50 for the visa and about €38 for the VFS service fee.

Costs of Studying

  • Public universities: €900–€4,000/year
  • Private universities: €6,000–€20,000/year
  • Living costs: €800–€1,300/month depending on the city

Scholarships

Scholarships can greatly reduce the cost of studying. Examples include:

  • Italian Government Scholarship: €9,000/year
  • University of Milan Excellence Scholarship: €8,000/year
  • University of Bologna Talent Program: €4,500 + tuition waiver
  • Erasmus Mundus: Covers full expenses for eligible Master’s programs

Part-Time Jobs

Students can work up to 20 hours/week with a valid residence permit. Common jobs include waiters, receptionists, delivery staff and campus assistants etc are available for students. Wages range from €10–€17 per hour, depending on the job and city.
