Arifin Shuvoo, a well-known leading man in today’s Dhallywood film industry, is making a comeback with the movie “Neelchakra” this Eid-ul-Adha. This marks his return to the silver screen after a hiatus that began on August 5th of this year, coinciding with the change in government following student protests against discrimination.
His absence from acting followed his work on “Mujib: The making of a nation”, a film chronicling the of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman , a role that also garnered him significant negative feedback.
In arecent media interaction, Shuvo addressed his decision to accept a token payment of one Taka for his role in “Mujib”.
He argued that the criticism leveled against him was largely unfair. He explained that individuals have the right to determine the value of their own work, stating that setting one’s own fee is a standard practice and not an offense.
He further elaborated that criticism would have been justified if he had charged a significantly higher amount for “Mujib” compared to a hypothetical film he might have done for a minimal fee.
However, he pointed out that he did the opposite by essentially working on the biopic without pay.
When questioned about the possibility of potraying Ziaur Rahman in a future biopic during the same interview, Shuvoo affirmed his professional commitment as an actor.
He stated that his role involves embodying characters authentically and that he would be willing to take on any role a director believes he is suitable for.
“Neelchakra,” Shuvoo’s upcoming film is directed by Mithu Khan and features a cast including Mandira Chakraborty, Fazlur Rahman Babu, Shirin Alam, Khaleda Akter Kolpona, Shahed Ali, Priyonti Urbi, Masum Rezwan, and others.
