The automotive industry these days is undergoing a dynamic transformation, driven by rapid technological advancements, shifting consumer preferences, and a global push toward sustainability. From electric vehicles to smart mobility solutions, the sector is evolving faster than ever, reshaping how we think about transportation and innovation.
Recently a transformative new chapter unfolds for Bangladesh’s automotive industry! For the very first time, internationally acclaimed Mitsubishi vehicles are being manufactured right here at home—thanks to Rancon Auto Industries’ state-of-the-art facility at Rancon Industrial Park in Bhabanipur, Kashimpur, Gazipur.
Mitsubishi Motors Corporation, with its headquarters in Minato, Tokyo, stands out as one of Japan’s top car makers. In 2011, it ranked 6th among Japan’s automakers and 19th globally in production.
This isn’t just assembly—it’s full-scale, cutting-edge production. Rancon has invested over Tk 350 crore to bring global standards to Bangladesh, setting up advanced body painting units, high-precision parts assembly, and international-standard testing. This is where world-renowned Japanese craftsmanship meets Bangladeshi innovation.
At the forefront of their lineup is Mitsubishi’s trendy and roomy 7-seater MPV, the Xpander, paired with the sophisticated Proton X-70 SUV. Also rolling off the line: powerful JAC pickups and premium Mercedes-Benz commercial buses. And this is just the beginning—with MG vehicles on the horizon, the future is even more exciting!
“Our facility isn’t just one of the best in the country—it meets international benchmarks,” said Shihab Ahmed, Chief Operating Officer of Rancon Auto Industries. “From design to performance, every detail is tested and perfected.”
A highlight of the plant is its world-class test track, where each vehicle is rigorously examined for speed, braking, and suspension. The current production capacity is impressive:
- 2,000 units of the Mitsubishi Xpander
- 300-400 units of the Proton X-70
- 600 commercial trucks
- 360 Mercedes-Benz buses
And it’s already fueling growth, creating jobs for over 800 skilled professionals across departments.
Commercial sales of the Mitsubishi Xpander and Proton X-70 are set to begin this June, with a reassuring five-year warranty for every vehicle. Pricing announcements are just around the corner.
“Bangladesh is now building cars with the precision and reliability of Japan,” said Md. Fahim Hossain, Head of Automotive Marketing. “With Mitsubishi Motors Corporation’s official approval, we’ve earned global recognition. We’re confident these vehicles will inspire admiration throughout the nation.
From dream to drive—Bangladesh is on the move.
Bangladesh’s success in producing a Mitsubishi car is a remarkable milestone, igniting hope for a brighter future in the automotive industry. It’s a testament to the nation’s growing capabilities and potential on the global stage.
