Chattogram Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (CVASU) Enthusiastically organized a program to commemorate World Milk Day this year under the inspiring theme, “Let’s Celebrate the Power of Milk.” The occasion was marked by a series of thoughtfully organized events designed to promote the nutritional benefits of milk and highlight its vital role in human health.
The celebration, held on Sunday, was spearheaded by the Department of Dairy and Poultry Sciences at CVASU and featured a diverse array of activities to engage participants from across the university community.
The day’s events began at 10 a.m. with a vibrant and colorful procession through the university campus. The procession was led by CVASU’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr. Mohammad Lutfor Rahman, who was accompanied by a large gathering of faculty members, administrative staff, students, and university officials. The energetic march symbolized a collective commitment to raising awareness about the significance of milk in daily nutrition.
Following the procession, participants gathered in the Dairy Science Laboratory for a formal discussion session and the milk-drinking program. The session was chaired by Professor Dr. A.K.M. Humayun Kabir, Head of the Department of Dairy and Poultry Sciences, who welcomed the attendees and set the tone for the event. The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr. Mohammad Lutfor Rahman, graced the occasion as the chief guest, sharing his valuable insights on the importance of milk consumption. Distinguished guests included Professor Dr. Gautam Kumar Debnath, Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, and Professor Dr. A.K.M. Associate Professor Dr. Md. Sohel Al Faruk from the Department of Physiology, Biochemistry, and Pharmacology played a special role as the moderator of the session, ensuring the program proceeded smoothly and fostering interactive dialogue among participants.
In his keynote address, Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Mohammad Lutfor Rahman underscored the global significance of World Milk Day, which is celebrated annually on June 1 to increase awareness about the nutritional value of milk and dairy products. He emphasized that milk is a complete and balanced food, rich in essential nutrients such as high-quality protein, calcium, vitamins, and minerals. These nutrients play a critical role in supporting overall health and wellbeing, particularly in the growth and development of children, where milk contributes significantly to both physical and cognitive development.
Furthermore, Professor Rahman underlined the importance of advancing dairy farming practices to ensure a consistent supply of high-quality milk. He stressed the need for better management of dairy farms and the provision of balanced and nutritious feed to livestock, which are key factors in enhancing milk production and quality. This, he noted, would not only improve public health outcomes but also support the livelihoods of farmers and strengthen the agricultural sector.
The celebration at CVASU not only reinforced the importance of milk as a dietary staple but also served as a reminder of the ongoing efforts required to promote sustainable dairy farming and nutrition education. Through such initiatives, CVASU continues to play a pivotal role in fostering awareness and supporting the dairy industry in Bangladesh.
