Stockolm Junior Water Prize is an International Competition. Which is celebrates to recognize young talents of innovators. Young scientists who”s age is between 15-20 can participate in this competition. They can get the opportunity to present their research in this competition.
This year, the ceremony of Stockholm Junior Water Prize was held at Ascott Palace in Baridhara, Dhaka on 7 May 2025. The Swedish Ambassador to Bangladesh, Nicholas Weeks was the Chief Guest.
Jabir Zarif Akhter, a class 12 student from St. Joseph Higher secondary school has once again emerged as the national winner of the prestigious Stockholm Junior Water Prize (SJWP) in Bangladesh.
Competeing with his team ‘Plasma rider 2.0’ zarif clinched the top spot with a ground breaking project. Title of the project is ‘Water Purification through ZnO Photocatalysis and AI Based Rapid TestingSystem’.
Their innovation is affordable, eco-friendly and solar powered water purification system. For this project, they uses zinc oxide photocatalysis couple with AI Based Testing to ensure water safety.
It designed specially for the flood-prone situation and industrial areas. They promises to step toward sustainable access to clean water.
In this, Zarif was represented Bangladesh. His team competed against the brightest youn innovators from all over the world. Also, won the grand prize of $15,000.
It is Zarif’s second time national victory. He represented Bangladesh in Sweden in 2024. He earned a diploma as a global finalist. He also got the opportunity to meet Queen Victoria of Sweden. He worked in the project called, ‘High Voltage Plasma Water Purifier from Electronic Waste’.
Young Changemakers like Zarif are continuously proving that Youth has the power to dream big and make a global impact.
